Planting & Care

Sow hibiscus seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost or directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours before planting to help soften the seed coat. Press seeds into moist, well-drained seed-starting mix and cover lightly. Keep the soil consistently moist and warm (70–75°F) for best germination.

Once seedlings have several sets of true leaves, transplant them into larger pots or into the garden after hardening off. Water regularly during the first growing season to help plants establish. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize lightly in spring as new growth appears.
