Planting & Care
To sow hibiscus seeds, start them indoors in a warm, bright location using a well-drained seed-starting mix. Press seeds lightly into the surface and keep the medium evenly moist. A warm environment, around 70–85°F, supports germination. Once seedlings have developed several true leaves and all danger of frost has passed, gradually acclimate them to outdoor conditions before transplanting to a sunny spot with well-drained soil.
Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the top inch of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Feed with a balanced fertilizer according to package directions to support healthy growth and flowering. In cooler climates, tropical hibiscus can be grown in containers and brought indoors for the winter.
