Planting & Care

Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Use a light, well-draining seed-starting mix and barely cover the seeds with soil. Keep the medium consistently moist but not waterlogged, and provide warmth and bright light. Once seedlings have several true leaves and all danger of frost has passed, harden them off and transplant outdoors after acclimating.

Water regularly, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering. In colder zones, tubers can be dug and stored over winter, or plants can be grown as annuals.
