Planting & Care

Sow seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost or directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Lightly press seeds into the soil surface, as they need light to germinate. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination typically occurs in 10-21 days at 65-70°F (18-21°C).

Once seedlings have developed true leaves, transplant them outdoors after hardening off. Space plants 18-24 inches apart in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continued flowering, or leave seed heads for winter interest and bird food.
